1967 Dodge Dart, 440 Six-Pack
This 1967 Dodge Dart 270 2 DR. HT. started life as a slant six grocery getter, complete with 13" wheels. The young man that I stole the car from ($250) in August 2004 had aspirations of doing a stock restoration, and already had every portable piece removed, bagged and tagged.
The 512 stroker engine was built by Marlo at Waterhouse Motors in Tacoma. It sports a roller cam from Hughes Engines with the rotating gear from 440 Source. It spins a 3400 stall converter from Dynamic Converters with a built 727 by Scott Dickey of Silverdale. Phil Larson did all the mechanicals on the car including engine mounts, 4.10 suregrip 8-3/4" A-body rear end, cut down pickup truck axles by Andrews Machine in Illahee, 68 Charger 11" x 3" drum brakes rear, Super Stock springs, 73 Dart disc brakes up front, and sway bars fore and aft. Exhaust is by Kitsap Muffler in Gorst; wheels are 15" x 7" Rallye with P205-70R15s up front and P245-60R15s out back.
The body on this car was nearly perfect. Jim Whitby at Rainbow Auto Body and Painting in Gorst gets the honors for the B5 blue base coat-clear coat paint job including the painted-on free hand bumble bee stripe.
Interior is 71 Challenger high back buckets in Bright Blue covers by Legendary. Headliner and package shelf are also by Legendary. The back seat was beautifully reupholstered to match the fronts by Russell's Upholstery near Gilberton. The dash pad was also recovered by Russell's. The instrument panel is from Rocky Mountain Dashes, and the gauges are Auto Meter C2 with the blue backlighting, all expertly installed by my son Ben Hamilton who was my "head wrench" until he moved out of state.
Future plans include a Dana 60 rear with 4-link suspension and mini-tubs to get some rubber under the car!
